So, I had this massively frustrating situation where my 16 GB iPhone memory was constantly full. I finally found a (maybe temporary) solution for it, so I decided to share it. I hereby name it iPhone storage full -bug, because it lacks a better name.
I did all the basic tricks to free iPhone storage space. First I checked my iOS version (up to date) and storage settings and did a quick analysis of my storage use and I identified the worst offenders.
Todo list how to clean your iPhone
- Remove all unnecessary apps
- Clean your browser cache
- Delete as many unnecessary Message threads as possible (for me it actually didn’t do a thing first)
- Back up your pictures. I backed them to my laptop and removed them from my iPhone
- Delete media and stored data from your Apps (WhatsApp was the worst)
- And last – (Cold) reboot your iPhone
It seemed to help for a while, but again and again I was getting this ”Storage almost full” -message. It was almost like the storage space was leaking? After a lot of head scratching I decided to install PhoneClean App for my iMac. This app did the thing and analyzed my iPhone. Results were quite surprising – I had 3,3 GB worth of temporary items, which were generated when iTunes sync failed to sync. PhoneClean removed those files and everything was running smoothly again.
As I previously mentioned, this might be a temporary solution and I don’t have a clue what’s actually causing this. Maybe app updates fail somehow? But in any case – if your iPhone or iPad storage seems to get full constantly, temporary installation files might be a partial cause for that.
Hope this helps!
